Lyrics for Something More Is Here

I GUESS IT’S ABOUT LIFE
Ecclesiastes 3:1
Music by Matthew David Fritz

For everything there is a season,
And a time for every purpose under heaven

EVERYTHING BEAUTIFUL
Based on Ecclesiastes 3:1-11; Ecclesiastes 3:11, Amplified Bible; and Life-study of Ecclesiastes, msg. 1, by Witness Lee
Music and lyrics by Matthew David Fritz

There’s a time to be born, and a time to die
A time to plant, and time to reap
There’s a time to kill, and a time to heal
A time to laugh and a time to weep

He’s made everything beautiful in its own time
Everything has a part
And more than He’s done, more than mortals could find
To the end from the start
He planted eternity into their heart

There’s a time to throw out, and a time to keep
A time to lose and time to seek
There’s a time to tear, and a time to sew
A time to be silent, and a time to speak

He’s made everything beautiful in its own time
Everything has a part
And more than He’s done, more than mortals could find
To the end from the start
He planted eternity into their heart

There’s a time for war, and a time for peace
A time to love, and time to hate
There’s a time to mourn, and a time to dance
A time to embrace, and refrain from embracing, oh

He’s made everything beautiful in its own time
Everything has a part
And more than He’s done, more than mortals could find
To the end from the start
He planted eternity into their heart

He’s made everything beautiful in its own time
Everything has a part
And more than He’s done, more than mortals could find
To the end from the start
He planted eternity into their heart

Divine purpose, nothing under the sun
But God can satisfy since time has begun, nothing under the sun
Divine purpose, nothing under the sun
But God can satisfy this longing for One, nothing under the sun
Divine purpose, nothing under the sun
But God can satisfy since time has begun, nothing under the sun

Nothing under the sun
Nothing under the sun

ENDS OF THE EARTH
Based on 1 Kings 10:1-10; Matthew 12:42
Music and lyrics by Matthew David Fritz

Listen to all the matters on my heart I keep inside
Tell me all the answers till there’s nothing left to hide
I came thinking I’d find just fabled ancient lore
I would come from the ends of the Earth to behold something more
I would come from the ends of the Earth to behold something more

If there’s a higher majesty, then please don’t let me know
I just couldn’t take it lest my weakness start to show
I heard but didn’t believe until I saw for sure
I would come from the ends of the Earth to behold something more
I would come from the ends of the Earth to behold something more

I’ve relished costly spices and glittering gold
They pale compared to you and the half has not been told

Would you indulge me while I dream contentment could be real
I’ve seen true happiness, much deeper than I feel
Words could never describe this joy I can’t ignore
I would come from the ends of the Earth to behold something more
I would come from the ends of the Earth to behold something more

LIFE WITH YOU
Based on Ecclesiastes 9:9; Proverbs 5:18-19; Song of Songs 4:9
Music and lyrics by Matthew David Fritz

Enjoy life with the wife whom you have loved all your days
May you be ravished by her love always
May your fountain be blessed, satisfied on her breast
And rejoice in the wife of your youth

You’re the one I’ve loved all the days of my life of vanity
Under the sun, He gave me a wife as lovely as you
How I enjoy life with you
I enjoy life with you

You’re my portion in life, my bride, impart your love with one
Glance of your eyes, oh my, my heart is ravished by you
How I enjoy life with you
I enjoy life

With my lovely deer, my graceful doe
Each passing year, I love you so much more

On your loving breast each day I’m satisfied and my
Fountain is blessed, what grace I find rejoicing in you
How I enjoy life with you
I enjoy life

With my lovely deer, my graceful doe
Each passing year, I love you so much more

You’re the one I’ve loved all the days of my life of vanity
Under the sun, how I enjoy life with you

LIFE UNDER THE SUN
Based on Ecclesiastes 1:1-11, and Life-study of Ecclesiastes, msg. 1, by Witness Lee
Music and lyrics by Matthew David Fritz

Rivers run to the sea
Yet the sea isn’t full, nor could ever be
To the place where they run
There they run again like life under the sun

Going south, turning north
And so on the wind goes blowing forth
Turn about as it yearns
To continually follow until it returns

Creation was subject to vanity
In hope of freedom from its slavery

What has been done is what will be done
What has been is what will be
Under the sun, there’s nothing new to see
Just vanity of vanities

Sun will rise, and it sets
Bringing forth new beginnings without old regrets
To its place will it rise
So it hurries through darkness yet never dies

Creation was subject to vanity
In hope of freedom from its slavery

What has been done is what will be done
What has been is what will be
Under the sun, there’s nothing new to see
Just vanity of vanities

What has been done is what will be done
What has been is what will be
Under the sun, there’s nothing new to see
Just vanity of vanities

CHASING THE WIND
Based on Ecclesiastes 1–2
Music and lyrics by Matthew David Fritz

All remain the same, though a generation comes and goes the earth stands forever
Nothing satisfies, all is weary and tried, nothing’s new and nothing’s remembered
So the cycle remains, in a world that is vain

Like chasing the wind
Like chasing the wind
And so will it end right where it begins
Like chasing the wind

Now my knowledge increased and my heart never ceased to know wisdom, folly and madness
Thinking pleasure I’d find, as the blind lead the blind, all I found were toil and sadness
No advantage was won, here under the sun

Like chasing the wind
Like chasing the wind
And so will it end right where it begins
Like chasing the wind

’Midst all this vanity, God has an economy
In this downward fall, take Him as your all

So I labored in vain knowing all that I gained was just left to the man who came after
All our days are vexed, and our heart doesn’t rest, though sorrow is better than laughter
I perceived one fate, I just couldn’t relate

Like chasing the wind
Like chasing the wind
And so will it end right where it begins
Like chasing the wind

Like chasing the wind
Like chasing the wind
And so will it end right where it begins
Like chasing the wind

CHECKERWORK AND  CHAIN
Based on 1 Kings 1:1-2:11; 7:15-22, and Life-study of 1 & 2 Kings, msg. 2, and Life-study of Genesis, msgs. 83-84, by Witness Lee
Music and lyrics by Matthew David Fritz

I watched your glory fade just like the setting sun
Till nothing there was bright
Its splendor wasn’t quite the same
The seed you’d sow would spoil the sunrise you begun
Jaded by its light
It fell on me despite the shame

These nets of checkerwork and chain
And hours spent in vain
Praying that they’d let me go
Surround me like a thorny crown
Encircled there I found
A bed where trusting lilies grow

Be strong and be a man, you sagely iterate
With a heart beguiled
And legacy defiled by sin
Situations intermix and complicate
Though I’m a little child
It’s time my reconciling begins

These nets of checkerwork and chain
And hours spent in vain
Praying that they’d let me go
Surround me like a thorny crown
Encircled there I found
A bed where trusting lilies grow

Oh, aah, may the trusting lilies grow
Oh, aah, may the trusting lilies grow

These nets of checkerwork and chain
And hours spent in vain
Praying that they’d let me go
Surround me like a thorny crown
Encircled there I found
A bed where trusting lilies grow

WITHOUT A SOUND

Based on 1 Kings 6:7; 5:17; 1 Chronicles 22:2; The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1955, vol. 3, “The Growth and Maturity in Life for the Building Up of God’s Dwelling Place”; and The Vision, Type, and Practice of the Building Up of the Church, ch. 4, by Witness Lee
Music and lyrics by Matthew David Fritz

Gather all sojourners to be found
Quarry the great stones from the ground
Hew till the edges rough are round
Fit to be built without a sound

Hammers can break with just a word
Ointments will slake until they’re stirred
The path that we take, though not preferred
Leads to a place where no sound is heard

Neither hammer nor ax nor iron tool
Was heard in the house while being built
He’ll lay us all down one by one
And without a sound we shall be built

Stones that the natural form retain
Can at the most be piled in vain
Those that allow the cutting pain
Without a sound His building gain

Have you not felt you’re all alone
The lot you’ve been dealt could not be known
Foundations are laid with costly stones
Without a sound He builds His home

Neither hammer nor ax nor iron tool
Was heard in the house while being built
He’ll lay us all down one by one
And without a sound we shall be built

And without a sound we shall be built

VANITY FAIR
Based on Ecclesiastes 1:2; 7:25; 2:1, 11; Ephesians 4:20-21; Life-study of Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Songs, ch. 10; The Conclusion of the New Testament, msg. 341 by Witness Lee; and The Pilgrim’s Progress, by John Bunyan
Music and lyrics by Matthew David Fritz

Vanity, says the preacher
I set my heart to be a seeker
Liquid myrrh drips from my fingers
Sweetly killing my urge to linger

Living in this world, fully aware
We’re passing through a vanity fair
Bold we escape the fowler’s snare
Passing through this vanity fair

In my heart I said, in measure
Taste enjoyment, test out pleasure
All the works my hands could manage
Under the sun gave no advantage

Living in this world, fully aware
We’re passing through a vanity fair
Bold we escape the fowler’s snare
Passing through this vanity fair

Fleeing this world’s vanity
We’re learning life’s reality
Pressed into His mold
Real life we behold

Living in this world, fully aware
We’re passing through a vanity fair
Bold we escape the fowler’s snare
Passing through this vanity fair

Passing through this vanity fair

AN UNDERSTANDING HEART
Based on 1 Kings 3:3-15, and Life-study of 1 & 2 Kings, msg. 3 by Witness Lee
Music and lyrics by Matthew David Fritz

It was a night dream where God appeared
Such a sight seemed to be so sincere
Ask and I will give you whatever you want

With Your great love to my father shown
How You gave a son to sit upon his throne
In his place, though I’m a little child

Oh, I don’t know how to come or go
O Lord, impart an understanding heart

Now the bitter foes stood before the throne
Pleading interpose and make your wisdom known
Which of us is the mother of this child?

With the smiting sword emerging to divide
How she implored with a compassionate cry
Oh, my Lord, give the child so that he may live

Oh, I don’t know how to come or go
O Lord, impart an understanding heart

If I ask for riches You would give them
If I ask to lengthen all my years
Nothing could compare to what You would prepare
For the ones who love You without fear

Oh, I don’t know how to come or go
O Lord, impart an understanding heart

Oh, I don’t know how to come or go
O Lord, impart an understanding heart

A MEASURE OF LIFE
Based on 1 Kings 11:1-13, and Life-study of 1 & 2 Kings, msg. 7, by Witness Lee
Music and lyrics by Matthew David Fritz

If true heart perfection is simply a reflection
Of a fully-following heart
Why would you leave the love you held from the start?

If love’s vain attraction would spark a chain reaction
Turning your heart far away
Could God’s own appearing infuse you with fearing you’d stray?

Could I wield all the wisdom in the world
Would it ever compare to a pearl of worth
That life plus suffering produced?
So capability follows
If gifts from above only lead to strife
Could they ever replace a measure of life?
The life a dove can supply
Issues from a measure of life

If clinging forbidden never could be hidden
From the very God that you trust
How could you yield to such indulgence in lust?

Does wisdom really matter when kingdoms fall and shatter?
Casting dominion aside
Deadly division instead of your vision abides

Could I wield all the wisdom in the world
Would it ever compare to a pearl of worth
That life plus suffering produced?
So capability follows
If gifts from above only lead to strife
Could they ever replace a measure of life?
The life a dove can supply
Issues from a measure of life

A LAND FAR AWAY
Based on Daniel 6; 1 Kings 8:46-53; Life-study of Daniel, msg. 8, and Life-study of 1 & 2 Kings, msg. 6, by Witness Lee
Music and lyrics by Matthew David Fritz

I am a servant of the God of my fathers
A chosen remnant in a land far away
Made me protector of a kingdom of captors
But wisdom’s king appealed in hope for this day

And I remember what he prayed

When we’re delivered to the hand of the enemy
And carried captive to a land far away
Hear our prayer toward the land of our fathers
Toward the chosen city, and the house for Your name
O Lord, our cause maintain

I came to know the decree of the plotters
But nothing’s new under the light of the sun
Open windows tame a den full of lions
So I knelt down just like I always have done

And thanked my God with what he prayed

When we’re delivered to the hand of the enemy
And carried captive to a land far away
Hear our prayer toward the land of our fathers
Toward the chosen city, and the house for Your name
O Lord, our cause maintain

I see the land, the city, and dwelling
My aim: His interest, fending off the attack
If God’s move is like a train in its power
Only prayer will pave the way as the track

Always remember what he prayed

When we’re delivered to the hand of the enemy
And carried captive to a land far away
Hear our prayer toward the land of our fathers
Toward the chosen city, and the house for Your name
O Lord, our cause maintain

A THREEFOLD CORD
Based on Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, Genesis 2:18, and 2 Timothy 2:22; Poetry reading: To My Dear and Loving Husband, by Anne Bradstreet
Music and lyrics by Matthew David Fritz

Better are two than one
Falling, how you lift me up
Lying, keep me warm
Standing, we’ll endure the storm

We weren’t meant to be alone

A threefold cord is not quickly broken
Though I may be
A threefold cord is not quickly broken
So braided we were meant to be

Strongholds we will subdue
Fleeing, together we pursue
With those calling, Lord
Nothing will ever break this cord

We weren’t meant to be alone

A threefold cord is not quickly broken
Though I may be
A threefold cord is not quickly broken
So braided we were meant to be

So naturally, to self I’m prone
You’re breaking me, my life is not my own

A threefold cord is not quickly broken
Though I may be
A threefold cord is not quickly broken
So braided we were meant to be

So braided we were meant to be
